Valentine’s Day usually comes wrapped in fantasy. Perfect couples. Perfect timing. Perfect love.
LALA isn’t interested in perfection.
Her new EP, Roses Are Blue, arrives just before the holiday with a different message: love in real life is layered, complicated, and still worth singing about. Instead of glossy romance, she leans into truth. The uncertainty. The desire. The clarity that comes when you finally stop settling.
And she does it the way she always has. Melody first.
A Melody-First Artist With a Global Voice
LALA calls herself the “Melody Queen,” and it fits. Her music doesn’t chase trends. She builds from emotion outward, letting the melody lead before anything else. The result feels intentional, grounded, and personal.
A global Pop/R&B artist with Jamaican, Indian, and Irish roots, LALA grew up surrounded by reggae and classic R&B. You can hear that foundation in her phrasing and storytelling. There’s depth in it. Soul. A respect for the lineage of artists like Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and H.E.R., who shaped a generation of emotionally intelligent music.
Her process is collaborative but deeply selective. Whether she’s writing in the room with other creatives or choosing outside records, everything has to align with her voice and lived experience. Nothing feels random.
Born From Reinvention
LALA’s journey didn’t begin yesterday. She recorded her first record at 16, broke through in rap, and secured a major deal with Ireland/Universal UK. Then she pivoted. She built a modeling agency. She stepped back. She traveled. She reset.
In November 2024, she re-emerged simply as LALA. Not the industry version. Not the earlier chapter. The evolved one.
Roses Are Blue is the sound of that reinvention.
Love That Isn’t Filtered
Part of the EP was written in Atlanta during the unraveling of a long-term relationship. The songs came from emotional fatigue. From being tired of mixed signals and circular conversations. From realizing that sometimes staying costs more than leaving.
That clarity runs through the project.
The energy lives at the intersection of confidence, desire, and boundaries. It’s self-assured without being detached. Honest without being bitter. Romantic without pretending everything is fine.
Instead of asking for grand gestures, LALA asks for consistency. Instead of fantasy, she offers emotional truth.
In a week where everything is supposed to look like a love story, she makes space for the people who are choosing themselves. The ones in limbo. The ones healing. The ones done shrinking.
A Return to Grown R&B
R&B is in a reflective moment right now. Artists are bringing melody and storytelling back to the forefront. LALA fits naturally into that wave, but her cross-cultural identity gives the sound its own perspective.
Roses Are Blue feels modern, but it carries the weight of tradition. Strong vocal runs. Clear storytelling. Emotion that doesn’t hide behind production.
It’s not a Hallmark soundtrack.
It’s something you sit with.
