When Michaela P. Shelton decided to bet on herself, she didn’t just create a show — she created a blueprint for women chasing their dreams against all odds.
The Bay Area–based writer, actress, and entrepreneur is the powerhouse behind Reckless Behavior, a dramedy streaming on Tubi and Amazon Prime. The series follows the messy, beautiful, and complicated realities of millennial life — touching on friendships, careers, family expectations, and mental health.
“I’ve always loved writing,” Shelton says. “But after college, I realized life wasn’t going the way I thought it would. I felt lost. Writing became my outlet, and people connected with it. That’s when I thought — why not make a show?”
Choosing Herself First
Leaving behind a steady 9-to-5 job, Shelton dove headfirst into storytelling full-time — a decision she describes as terrifying but necessary. “One morning I just knew I couldn’t do it anymore. I had to create,” she recalls.
The risk wasn’t easy. Credit cards stacked up, nights were long, and she often questioned her path. But with the support of her business partner, Imani Baylor, Shelton turned her passion into a fully produced series that now has three seasons.
Her journey is proof of what can happen when women choose their dreams over fear.

Storytelling With Intention
Reckless Behavior is more than just a series — it’s an honest reflection of the struggles women face in early adulthood. Shelton even wrote herself into the story, portraying a character based on her younger self.
“There’s a scene about suicide, another about financial struggles, another about caregiving. These aren’t just stories — they’re real experiences. They remind us that it’s okay to be vulnerable, it’s okay to not have it all together,” Shelton explains.
For her, storytelling is about empowering others to see themselves and know they’re not alone.
A Voice for Women
Shelton draws inspiration from trailblazing women like Issa Rae and Mara Brock Akil, who expanded the way Black women are seen on screen. But more than anything, she wants her work to remind women everywhere that perfection is not the goal.
“I want women to know that it’s okay to cry, to go to therapy, to admit you’re figuring it out. You don’t have to carry everything alone,” she says.
Looking Ahead
While Reckless Behavior is her signature project, Shelton sees it as just the beginning. She plans to branch into new genres — comedies, thrillers, and even faith-based projects.
Her mission remains the same: to give voice to women’s stories that are often overlooked.
“Even if you just write two pages today, you did something,” Shelton reminds us. “Keep going. Don’t give up on your vision.”
✨ Reckless Behavior is streaming now on Tubi (Seasons 1 & 2) and Amazon Prime (Season 3).
