Karen Huger, widely known as the “Grande Dame” of The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to one year in prison after her fourth DUI offense. The 61-year-old reality star received a two-year sentence, with one year suspended, meaning she will serve 12 months behind bars.

The sentencing follows a March 2024 incident in Potomac, Maryland, where Huger lost control of her white Maserati, crashing into multiple street signs. She was found guilty in December 2024 on multiple charges, including driving under the influence, reckless driving, failing to maintain proper speed, and neglecting to report a change of address.

During the court proceedings, Judge Terrence McGann stressed the severity of Huger’s repeated infractions, emphasizing the danger she posed to public safety. In addition to serving time, Huger will face a year-long driving ban upon release, five years of supervised probation, and a $2,900 fine. She must also install an ignition interlock device on her vehicle for the duration of her probation.

In a statement, Huger expressed regret for her actions, vowing to make amends by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings indefinitely and advocating against impaired driving. Her husband, Raymond Huger, spoke in her defense during the sentencing.

Huger’s legal troubles have also affected her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac. Bravo has announced that production for Season 10 will move forward without her, marking a major shift for the series. Fellow cast members, including Gizelle Bryant, have shown support for Huger, with Bryant even stating she would be open to filming a visit to see Huger in jail—if allowed.

Bravo executive Andy Cohen weighed in on the situation, expressing disappointment while underscoring the importance of taking such legal matters seriously.

Huger’s legal team has 30 days to appeal the ruling and 90 days to request a reconsideration of her sentence. While her future on reality television remains uncertain, for now, Huger will be serving her time away from the cameras.
